What To Do on Holiday in Devon

There are a wealth of things to see and do in the beautiful countryside around The Manor House. Colyford has two pubs: The White Hart and The Wheelwright, a post office, general store and a local butcher, and we have our very own motor museum.

The medieval town of Colyton is a mile away, nestling in the Axe Valley where the rivers Axe and Coly meet. It is known as 'Devon's Most Rebellious Town' due to the part it played in the Monmouth Rebellion of 1685.

Deckchairs at Seaton, DevonWe are 2.5 miles from the coastal town of Seaton, which is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and three miles from the charming fishing village of Beer. In Beer, you can go out mackerel fishing for the afternoon or, if your sea legs aren't that good, visit Pecorama and travel on the Beer Heights Light Railway from which you can enjoy magnificent views of Beer and Lyme Bay.

There are many beautiful walks in the area, including The East Devon Way and the South West Coastal Path. You can also hire bikes in Colyton and cycle through the beautiful East Devon countryside on several beautiful cycle routes.

A great way to explore the local area is the Colyton to Seaton Tramway. Trams operate between Seaton, Colyford and Colyton in East Devon's glorious Axe Valley, travelling alongside the River Axe estuary through two nature reserves.

If you like nature, East Devon is the place to be. Not only do we have our own nature reserve and bird hide in Colyford, there are many other reserves, including the beautiful bluebell woods at Holyford.

There's plenty to keep the kids entertained. They'll love a day out at World of Country Life, where they can pet the animals, or Bicton Botanical Gardens, with its woodland railway and indoor and outdoor play areas. There's also the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, where 400 rescued donkeys roam free.

For those interested in natural history, there's a dinosaur museum at Lyme Regis or you can go fossil hunting on Charmouth Beach.

There's plenty for the adults too. There are many golf courses in the area, including Lyme Regis, Axe Cliff, Bridport and West Dorset, Woodbury Park and Sidmouth. The Darts Farm Village offers a wide range of farm produce and home and garden products. Or you can just spend time exploring the beautiful towns of Sidmouth and Lyme Regis.

There are some beautiful beaches in the area, including Sidmouth, Branscombe, Budleigh Salterton and Lyme Regis.
